Lunn's Testimony

Whence my wife asked me to hide for a while, I had no way of knowing what she was saving me from. She merely told me that I was in great danger, and I should pretend to die. With her tears, I could not refuse the woman I loved, so I agreed. In the span of five years, I hid amongst the castle members as she instructed, and I tried not to ask her why.

Finally, there came the occasion to which she answered my question. "The mage does not favor you, and I am afraid that he intends to harm you. Please, just one more year!" So, I did. In the final days of the fifth year, she was killed. Many speculate that she commited suicide; that she missed me too much to live. Lies! She was murdered by the mage, the last leader of the Counsel!

How do I know such things? It was perchance that I was leaving the castle to mourn when I came upon a tortured soul; a kind-hearted gryphon who lay mangled in the woods. I tended her wounds as best I could and attempted to stand her up. That is whence I saw the murderer's face. It was grim, bloody, and evil. I could feel chills run up and down my spine as he walked nearer.

"You! You have tried to save such a sinner! Then you be damn'd with her!" And, that behated creature stirred up a spell. A horribly contracted spell that would torture our souls as long as we lived. Which, for all means, will be forever.

It was a linked-eternity spell. So long as this mage lives, we will live. Clearly, though, he was and is invunerable, what chance would I stand against a mage? So, this being my testimony, I am Lunn, first ruler of the Castle. I have humbled myself to the position of Knight, in hopes that I can save the Kings in the future. No one recognizes me now, and no one but the fair gryphon and the mage believe me!
