At the Well

Roth'sam'ierd

You approach the well, curious as to who and what would live in such a dark place. The ground underfoot becomes a bit mushy, as if some of the well water has been spilled. Within a few steps, you are at the wells.

Despite the fact that tons of the houses look as if they are completely natural, there is nothing natural about this welling system. There is an intricate rope-and-pulley system, but that's nothing compared to the creature sitting next to it. With flur so black you can barely see it, a creature sits will all sorts of wiggets and whatsists on it.

"I am Roth'sam'ierd," she says in a hoarse voice. "Most call me Roth, though. I guard this well. Care for a drink?"

You shake your head, explaining that you are just a wanderor looking at the village. She smiles. "You could always visit our book shop, I'm sure they're be... delighted... to see you..." She gives a wicked smile.

Mugan

You're not entirely certain you should take Roth's advice, but you decide to hang out at the well for a short while, as you're very tired. After just a few moments, the padding of feet can be heard and, sure enough, someone appears. When the creature comes into view, Roth quickly pulls up a bucket of water.

"That there is Mugan," she says. "He's one of the Hunter Cats in this area. They're smart, but either they don't talk or they can't, either way you'll not get a word out of him, trust you me."

Mugan turns and walks to the bucket, happily drinking the water. It splatters everywhere, and you get the impression that that is why the ground is so soft here. He turns his eyes to you; they're a brilliant green. His hind feet, which are hooves, stamp merrily as he purrs a bit. Then, without a noise, he turns and runs off."
